Thomas Tuchel admitted he was not sure Mason Mount would recover in time to play Wednesday’s Champions League group stage game against Juventus, adding that it would only be “a matter of hours “to know if he would succeed or not.

Mount, who missed Saturday’s loss to Manchester City due to a ‘minor blow’ he suffered in last week’s Carabao Cup match against Aston Villa, has been an integral part of Tuchel’s plans since the arrival of the German at the club last season.

After impressive performances for Chelsea over the past two seasons, Mount has also become a key member of Gareth Southgate’s England squad and even started the Euro 2020 final against Italy in July.

Tuchel has confirmed he is still not sure whether the England midfielder will be available to play against the Italian giants on Wednesday night.

“I have no idea, we have to see. At the end of the day, it will only be a matter of hours whether or not he gets there, “he said. Chelsea site.

Speaking after the loss to Man City on Saturday, former Premier League defender Rio Ferdinand said he felt Chelsea lacked Mount’s energy and bite during the game.

“It was a statement performance. It was a 1-0 loss today. Chelsea were not part of the game. City dominated in all areas, ”he told BT Sport.

“It was really compelling and exactly what City needed. Chelsea were not up to the task today, the intensity was not there. They were beaten by a better team that day.

“Chelsea missed Mason Mount today, the way he connects the team and his energy.

“I think Tuchel will want him to come back as soon as possible.”
